Perennial Serbian Bellflower is a mid-Spring bloomer. Its low growing mound of serrated, triangle-shaped leaves look like a tangled and tight cluster of small, green grapefruit spoons. The flowers are light lavender-blue and are softly scented. Serbian Bellflower is a spreading plant that looks best in the front of the border, or use in the rockery where its stems can sprawl over stones and edgings. Unlike many Campanulas, this Bellflower is a polite reseeder and is not a rapidly spreading garden thug. Bellflowers prefer full sun and amended, moist soil. A shovel of compost added to the planting hole is helpful. In droughty periods it will wither and flop at midday, especially in high heat, but can be refreshed with a deep watering. Increase by division or seed.
