Annual Ageratum attracts butterflies to its clusters of lavender-blue flowers all throughout Summer and into late Autumn when the plant is eventually killed by frost. Deadeading keeps the plant bushy and flowering well. The flower range includes lavender-blue, pink and creamy-white. Ageratum is sometimes effected by powdery mildew in humid climates, treat as needed. This annual prefers full sun to part shade and amended, moist soil. During drought the plant can wither and brown. A shovel of compost in the planting hole and a top-dressing of grass clippings or mulch will help retain soil moisture. Increase by seed, look for dwarf or tall forms in catalogues.
