Exotic looking Cannas grow from rhizomes that must be lifted before Winter and stored above freezing temperatures in zones six and colder, heavy mulching is recommended for zones seven and eight, in zones nine and warmer, Cannas will not need Winter protection. "Yellow King Humbert" is a tall canna, to six feet, with impressive golden-yellow blooms that are mottled with orange-red specks. Their tropical appearance and tall height make Cannas excellent plantings for screening summertime-utility outdoor areas, such as pool pumps, air-conditioning units and compost heaps, as well as making annual hedging and screening or focal-point plantings in landscapes. Cannas prefer full sun and moist, amended soil. Part shade is tolerated well in zones eight and warmer. Increase by rhizome division or seed.
